Physiological ecology and feeding biology of planktonic protists (one celled algae and protozoa); Role of microzooplankton (ciliates and dinoflagellates) in food webs; Sequestration of foreign organelles and cellular evolution of protists; Harmful algal and cyanobacterial blooms and their effects on food webs and biogeochemistry; Mixotrophy; Effects of hypoxia on microzooplankton-zooplankton interactions; Polar and subpolar microzooplankton and algae.
