Transition from Explanation to Extension

Lesson Plan Standards:

1.1.1

Explanation

The muscle gene must be "turned off" in this BOP fish. How can this happen to DNA in nature? How could this be done in the lab?

Objectives:

The muscle gene must be "turned off" in this BOP fish. How can this happen to DNA in nature? How could this be done in the lab?

Procedures:

Allude to the steps of making a transgenic fish, but go over in detail later in the genetics unit. Did we solve our problem? Review original clips of fish. How could you take this new knowledge a step further? What are some applications about the research you just learned about?

Maryland State Standards:

The student will recognize that real problems have more than one solution and decisions to accept one solution over another are made on the basis of many issues.
