Isabel Butler Viruet

Isabel C. Butler Viruet works in the National Weather Service Ocean Prediction Center (OPC), Office of Observation as a lead/coordinator for the Earth System Observation Board’s Ocean, Coast and Great Lakes Team.

Isabel obtained her undergraduate degree in environmental science from Ana G. Mendez University System in San Juan, Puerto Rico and recently defended her PhD in January 2025. Her dissertation focuses on understanding how floating wetlands remove nitrogen from coastal systems and how they can complement restoration efforts. In her spare time, Isabel likes to tend to her garden, hike, visit museums and antique stores, and spend time with her pet chickens and family.
