Drew Hobbs

Drew Hobbs is a Ph.D. student in the University of Maryland’s Marine Estuarine Environmental Sciences (MEES) graduate program. He works with Dr. Laura Lapham and Dr. Ryan Woodland at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory and specializes in greenhouse gas cycling in estuarine systems like Chesapeake Bay. Drew’s research aims to better understand the controls on methane distribution and air-water flux in estuaries to better quantify methane emissions from coastal and estuarine ecosystems. He is particularly interested in the processes responsible for methane consumption in the sediments of aquatic systems. Drew also completed his M.S. degree in the MEES program while researching nitrous oxide cycling in Chesapeake Bay. In his spare time, Drew likes to exercise, hike, kayak, and keep up to speed with comic books and films.
