Stefenie Shenoy

Stefenie is a master’s student studying at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in the Marine Estuarine Environmental Science program. She works with Dr. Lora Harris and Dr. Jeremy Testa studying eastern oysters in the Chesapeake Bay. Her work is aimed at modeling the ecological, chemical, and physical aspects of oyster reefs. This model will quantify how various spatial configurations of oyster reefs affect the efficiency of oyster filtration. Such estimates can be used to inform aquaculture practices.

Stefenie studied marine science and mathematics at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, where she also developed an interest in environmental education. Before starting graduate school, she spent a year teaching algebra and geometry at a high school in Washington, D.C.
