Megan Munkacsy

Megan Munkacsy is a master's student in the University of Maryland’s Marine Estuarine Environmental Sciences, Environment and Society program. She works with Dr. Lisa Wainger of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, Chesapeake Biological Laboratory and Sea Grant extension agent Shannon Hood to address Chesapeake Bay use conflicts. Meg is facilitating input from stakeholders throughout the Bay to develop a geospatial tool that presents a value-based hierarchy of policy options addressing the conflict between recovering submerged aquatic vegetation populations, an expanding oyster aquaculture industry, and other Bay uses.

Originally from New Jersey, Meg has a B.S. in marine biology from Northeastern University and has worked jobs around the country at every level of shellfish aquaculture, from hatchery to harvest. Outside of research, she loves to cook, garden, and volunteer, regularly organizing around climate change issues.
