EACH SUMMER, the Maryland Sea Grant Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program offers fourteen students the opportunity to conduct marine research on the Chesapeake Bay — the program is especially designed for students majoring in such fields as biology, chemistry, ecology, environmental science, engineering, physics, marine science and mathematics. The Maryland Sea Grant Program, with support from the National Science Foundation provides each fellow with:
During this 12-week REU program each student works with a mentor on an individual research project at one of two labs located on the Chesapeake Bay: the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science's (UMCES) Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomons, Maryland, or its Horn Point Laboratory in Cambridge, Maryland. Applicants will be notified in early April regarding their final status. The National Science Foundation which funds our REU program has a restriction that all students who are offered a position at this REU Site do not need to accept or reject an offer until March 15th or later. The March 15th date is the earliest we can offer positions, not the latest. If you have questions or concerns regarding your status, please contact Fredrika Moser (moser@mdsg.umd.edu) or Jeannette Connors (connors@mdsg.umd.edu). This REU Site is funded by the National Science Foundation's Division of Ocean Sciences, and the cognizant Program Director for all OCE-funded REU sites is Lisa Rom at elrom@NSF.gov |
