Support for sound scientific research and those who undertake it forms the core of Maryland Sea Grant's mission. With a special focus on the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland Sea Grant has an established tradition of fostering the pursuit of innovative scientific inquiry and analysis.

Maryland Sea Grant–funded research at institutions throughout Maryland has led to advances in areas such as living marine resource management, aquaculture, seafood technology, and the understanding of estuarine processes. Maryland Sea Grant will continue to promote cutting–edge research and solutions for the critical issues facing the Chesapeake.
