Purpose:

The Chesapeake Bay Trust, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration, Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection, and other partners announce a request for proposals for its Restoration Research award program. The goal of this research program is to answer several key restoration questions. Funding partners hope that answering these questions will ultimately lead to increased confidence in proposed restoration project outcomes, clarification of the optimal site conditions in which to apply particular restoration techniques, information useful to regulatory agencies in project permitting, and information that will help guide monitoring programs.

Funding Range:

Literature reviews will be funded at up to $50,000 and there is no cap for research projects.

Restoration Activity:

Accomplish on-the-ground restoration projects that will result in improvements in watershed health, either through habitat enhancement or water quality improvement; Provide a demonstration-scale restoration project that can be used to showcase potential of a restoration technique; and Engage citizens in restoration activities and promote awareness of bay restoration either short-term (during the project period), though volunteer activities or events directly related to the project; or long-term (post-project period), through creating potential for workshops, training, and information education through interpretive signage.

Eligibility:

Both not-for-profit entities (academic institutions, non-profit organizations) and for-profit entities are permitted to apply.
