Lefty Kreh is a fly fisherman extraordinaire, an outdoor writer and a raconteur of note. And in this video he has a new story to tell about an old sport — recreational fishing in the Chesapeake Bay.
Fishing is a sport. And scoring is a big part of most sports. But for fishing, says Lefty, we need a new way of scoring. “Taking fish home is only one way of keeping score,” says Lefty. The best way to keep score is to simply release the fish back into the bay.
Lefty is also a teacher, and in this 20-minute video he demonstrates the tools and techniques for catching and releasing striped bass and bluefish. He illustrates — with patience and panache — how to use barbless hooks, wire cutters, fish dehookers, rubber nets, fish degorgers, wet gloves and wet towels. And with passion and inimitable eloquence he explains and exemplifies the kind of angler’s ethic we must all adopt if we want good fishing in the future.
