REU Research Ethics

Why is learning about ethics a required component of the REU program?
How do research ethics apply to the study of marine science?

We explore these questions and more in the research ethics portion of our REU program. This introduction to research ethics familiarizes students with issues of scientific responsibility and provides them with the tools necessary to confront ethical dilemmas they might confront as their careers evolve.

Our REU "Research Ethics" program provides:

  • an overview of core concepts in research ethics
  • student development of responsible research
  • applicability to student's project

Summer research ethics activities include:

  • lectures
  • workshops
  • roundtable discussions
  • essay writing with $100 stipend
