Fisheries Ecosystem Workgroup

•       The Fisheries Ecosystem Workgroup (FEW) is comprised of the Chairs of each of the Species Teams, the Quantitative Ecosystem Teams, Management Liaisons, and MDSG Staff. 

•       The FEW is tasked with developing a forward looking strategic work plan aimed to assist in the transition from single species management to ecosystem based fisheries management in the Chesapeake Bay.   Projects aim to be cross-cutting and integrated incorporating ecosystem issues impacting multiple species.

•       The ultimate goal is to work with managers in developing much needed tools to facilitate decision-making when faced with challenging tradeoffs choices.  

•       Development of regional tools requires the engagement of a diverse group of fisheries and non-fisheries experts, knowledgeable individuals with varied expertise in their areas with an interest in linking fisheries issues in a cross-discipline fashion.
