Striped Bass has served as the pilot project for the new Ecosystem Based Fisheries Management initiative for the Chesapeake Bay.  Early in the process the Striped Bass Species Team reached a consensus agreement to adopt a new format for work products to be passed to the QETs. The Striped Bass Team proposed generating an 8-10 page Background Brief for Striped Bass which identifies, describes, and summarizes the key salient biological information, management issues, and socioeconomic status for striped bass and references the comprehensive biological background document in the coastwide ASMFC plan. This Background Brief is being utilized by the QETs in coordination with a series of Striped Bass Issue Briefs pertinent to the four QET areas (Habitat Suitability, Stock Dynamics, Socioeconomics, Foodweb) also developed by the Striped Bass Team. The Issue Briefs identify critical ecosystem stressors for Striped Bass in the Chesapeake Bay and recommend metrics/indicators and reference points for the QETs to develop which will allow managers to address these issues.  Work on these briefs is complete and the briefs are available as a pdf below.  Maryland Sea Grant and members of the Striped Bass Species Team are pursuing a formal publication of these documents and we request that use of the Striped Bass Species Team Background and Issue Briefs be limited to the use of the EBFM project for Chesapeake Bay until this formal publication is available.

Thank you to all of the Striped Bass Species Team Members and outside contributors who worked to develop the Striped Bass Species Team Background and Issue Briefs!
