Mercury
Poisoning in Florida Panthers: This report presents the magnitude and distribution of
mercury levels in various tissues from free-ranging Florida panthers sampled over the past
13 years. Mercury concentrations in selected tissues from white-tailed deer, raccoon,
bobcat, otter, and alligator are also reported.
Initial
Report of the Governor's Commission for a Sustainable South Florida: Created by a 1994
Executive Order to make recommendations for achieving a healthy Everglades ecosystem that
can coexist and be mutually supportive of a sustainable South Florida economy and quality
communities. This is the Commission's Initial Report to the Governor and the Cabinet that
presents its findings and recommendations.
Linking the
Economy and Environment of Florida Keys/Florida Bay: The Monroe County Tourist
Development Council, The Nature Conservancy, Florida Keys Initiative, and the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have jointly funded a study to establish
contributions made by tourism to Monroe County's economy, and to measure the importance of
outdoor recreation and marine resources to the visitor industry.
Comprehensive
Plan for Restoration of the Everglades: The following links are related to the

Central and Southern Florida
Project "Restudy": The purpose of the Restudy is to develop modifications to
the Army Corps of Engineers' Central and Southern Florida Project to restore the
Everglades and Florida Bay ecosystems while providing for the other water-related needs of
the region.
Everglades
Digital Library: A library of information resources relating
to the south Florida environment. The collections include scientific and technical
reports, natural history writings, educational and interpretive materials, datasets, maps,
photos, and a directory of other Internet sites relating to the Everglades.
Florida
Geographic Data Library: A mechanism for distributing satellite imagery, aerial
photographs, tax data and spatial (GIS) data throughout the state of Florida.
Florida
Bay Project (NOAA/AOML): A large multi-discipline project designed to study and
understand the effects on the Everglades and Florida Bay caused by past water management
policy. This page includes research results on the Sediment Record, Episodic
Meteorological Events, Rainfall Events, Circulation and Exchange, and the Trophodynamic
Roles of Zooplankton.
Florida
Radar-Derived Precipitation: This site makes available both data processed from raw
High-Resolution Digital Precipitation data files, as well as individual and animated GIF
images of precipitation totals for various time periods (daily, weekly, and monthly) from
January 1996 to the present.
Southeast
Environmental Research Program's Water Quality Monitoring Network - Addresses
regional water quality concerns that exist outside the boundaries of individual political
entities. Biscayne Bay, Florida Bay & Whitewater Bay, and Ten Thousand Islands are
sampled monthly, while the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and the Southwest
Florida Shelf are sampled quarterly. The summary maps are produced on a quarterly basis by
integrating the individual projects into one data file for that month sampled.
Everglades Litigation
Collection: The University of Miami School of Law Library possesses an important
collection of Everglades litigation documents. The Collection's database is
accessible for on-line searching.
Everglades
Research and Education Center: An agricultural and
environmental research and education unit of the University of Florida's Institute of Food
and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS).
Florida Marine Research Institute: The Division of Marine Resources, Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI),
is the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's scientific bureau for providing
applied research and information synthesis to better manage our marine resources.
Florida Institute of Oceanography: The FIO
facilitates the activities of educators, scientists, and agencies responding to state,
regional, and national issues through provision of centralized facilities and research
vessels.
Rosenstiel School of Marine and
Atmospheric Science: The University of Miami's graduate school of marine and
atmospheric science. It is the only subtropical applied and basic marine and
atmospheric research institute of its kind in the continental United States.

Department of Food and Resource Economics - Department
faculty members are involved in a full range of research, extension, and teaching programs
including Agricultural Marketing and Policy, Production/Farm Management, International

Florida Game and
Fresh Water Fish Commission: Since its creation, the Commission has proudly assumed
the leadership role in protection and management of the 1,500 species of fish and
wildlife. It is organized into entities responsible for wildlife, freshwater fisheries,
law enforcement, environmental services, information services and administration.
