Outreach & Extension: Collaborative for Land Use Education (CLUE)
The Collaborative for Land Use Education (CLUE) Network is a coordinated effort that relies upon a multidisciplinary resource base to offer their collective expertise to Maryland communities facing growth and economic challenges. Specialists in science, finance, planning, economics, land use, and water quality have come together to develop a strategy for developing an effective network of support to meet community-driven needs. Current participants include University of Maryland research and extension faculty from the National Center for Smart Growth, Center for Agro-Ecology, Environmental Finance Center, Cooperative Extension, and the departments of Agriculture and Resource Economics, Geography, and Landscape Architecture. Experts in architecture, engineering, urban planning and historic preservation may soon be included as well.
The ultimate goal of the CLUE program is to prepare communities to take a proactive approach to manage growth and confront land-use issues for long-term sustainability. This group will facilitate an ongoing, integrated approach to address land-use issues with a focus on community wellbeing and environmental protection.
