This project is based in three rural shoreline communities in western Talbot County (the villages of Bellevue, Newcomb, and Royal Oak), which have been selected as pilot study sites to address issues such as stormwater management, shoreline erosion and flooding hazards.
The goal of this project is to empower rural communities in Talbot County to better manage their relationships with the coastal environment. Recommendations and strategies will be developed for these pilot communities, and if the process is successful, the remaining shoreline villages in the area could benefit from similar attention.
The study’s consultants include (1) the Center for Watershed Protection, which will be working on a stormwater retrofit assessment; (2) Bayland Consultants and Designer, which will be assessing shoreline conditions to characterize stability and threats; and (3) Andrew, Miller and Associates, which will be providing pollutant load reduction estimates for targeted improvements.
