• Caveats:
  • Sample returns are thought to be 20% of businesses that specialize in seafood
  • Does not include supermarket chains, restaurants and other stores that do not specialize in seafood
  • There is double counting since losses to wholesalers are calculated along with the losses to retailers
  • These losses are compensated by consumers purchasing other products in place of seafood (e.g., beef and poultry), so the net effect is much smaller. However, the businesses that gain sales due to these other purchases
