If there is a key ... it is education.

As population growth continues to increase throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed, the challenges facing restoration will continue to increase as well. While research will be critical to help us understand complex ecological processes, particularly the impact of human activities, and to provide information that can be adopted for natural resource management, science alone will not lead to sustaining the restoration of the Bay or any ecosystem. If there is a key, it is education - education of the young scientists and engineers who will be responsible for the next generation of coastal-based research; education of specialist to work in marine-related fields; and education of our citizens who must have the scientific knowledge to make reasoned choices that will influence environmental decision making.
