In light of regulatory changes to Louisiana's Oyster Lease Relocation Program the purpose of this study is to inform oyster farmers of the program's opportunities for mitigating their losses from coastal restoration projects. Several important changes have been made in the program one of the most important being that compensation is no longer administered on a first come first served basis but on a pro rata basis. Other important changes involve time limits and the ability to remove living oysters from condemned leases.
IMPACTS and/or BENEFITS: The results and publications produced by this project will help oyster farmers to understand their options when their leases are adversely affected by coastal restoration projects. We are hopeful that such information will bring about a smoother process for constructing and operating restoration projects.
