Fish Release Days

During the school year teachers and students raise native fish species to Chesapeake Bay and the freshwater streams within Maryland. Fingerling fish are provided by Horn Point Laboratory (University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science) and Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Not all fish make it through the whole year but students and teachers work hard to ensure that the fish remain healthy so they can be released into their natural environment.

This project design eliminates the need to house fish over the summer and gives students a chance to share experiences from their efforts throughout the year. Teachers and students have released striped bass into the Chesapeake Bay at Sandy Point State Park and Ft. McHenry in cooperation with Maryland Department of Natural Resources at the end of the school year.
